Purvis eliminates North Pike

PURVIS – The Purvis Lady Tornadoes overpowered North Pike to sweep the Lady Jaguars in two straight games Tuesday night in Class 4A state slowpitch softball playoff action.

The Lady Tornadoes, coached by David Entrekin, advance to the second round of the playoffs Saturday as Purvis visits Decatur to battle the Newton County Lady Cougars.

The Lady Jaguars, under the leadership of coach Sonya Wallace, conclude their season with a 23-6 record and finished in second place in Region 7-4A action with a 5-1 worksheet.

Purvis 13, North Pike 3

Jenna Hawks was the winning pitcher for the Lady Tornadoes with no strikeouts and one walk.

McKenzie Brock suffered the setback for North Pike with no strikeouts and one walk.

Madison Bigner was the top slugger for the Lady Jaguars with a home run and a double. Rickera Martin contributed a double and a single. Sarah Brock and Danaraye Parks hit safely.

Breanne Gamble provided the offensive spark to lead Purvis with two home runs and a single. Carrigan Arban contributed a home run and a single. Morgan Fellows hit a home run. Madison Morgan provided a double. Reilly Holcomb had a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Kacie McRaney and Donna Slade.

Purvis 7, North Pike 5

Hawk secured her second straight win as pitcher for Purvis with one strikeout and no walks.

McKenzie Brock absorbed the setback for the Lady Jags with no strikeouts and two walks.

Madison Bigner continued her hot hitting streak to lead North Pike with a home run and a single. Jordan Fitzgerald provided a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Lauren Wells, Rickera Martin, McKenzie Brock and Sarah Brock.

Breanna Gamble was the offensive leader for the Lady Tornadoes with a home run and single. Morgan helped with three singles. Arban and Fellows had a pair of singles. Elizabeth Frey, Marisa Bounds, Kacie McRaney, Jenna Hawk and Donna Slade hit safely.
