Givens signs with Southwest

Alexis Givens is taking her softball talents to the next level. Bogue Chitto’s first baseman has signed a softball scholarship with the Southwest Community College Lady Bears.

Givens signed her official scholarship papers last week in the Bogue Chitto Library. She is the daughter of John and Michelle Givens.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play softball at Southwest,” said Givens.

Givens mentioned that she is planning to pursue a career in nursing.

As a junior, Givens batted .337 for the Lady Cats. She accounted for 20 RBI and 6 doubles. As a lefty at first base, she posted a fielding percentage of .990.

“Alexis has been a valuable part of our team for the past six years,” said Bogue Chitto coach Scott Leggett. “She has started at first base since her eighth grade year. She has an excellent glove and swings the bat well.

“She played a large part in helping us win three state championships,” continued Leggett. “I think she will do great at the next level. We will miss her next season.”
