Get out and enjoy show at the Haven

The historic Haven building on West Cherokee Street was a hub of activity Friday and Saturday nights as the Brookhaven Little Theatre kicked off its 2014 production series with “The Dixie Swim Club,” a southern-style “dramedy” following the story of a group of women and former college swim team members through the years, allowing the audience to share the laughter and tears along the way.

Since BLT’s founding in 1968, its members have been sharing their talents with the community through their many plays and musical productions each year. The organization also has been working diligently to restore and preserve the historic Haven Theatre, bringing its beautiful marquee lights back to downtown and breathing life onto its stage throughout the years. Proceeds from ticket sales and other fundraisers help with the ongoing restoration of this downtown landmark.

Having a little theater in our city adds vitality to our town, and if you haven’t been to a production before, we encourage you to do so. Our little theater group needs all of our support to help it continue to thrive and enrich our community.

Not only does BLT present multiple performances each year for the enjoyment of our entire community, it also helps create and nurture a love of the theatrical art among our young people through annual summer theater camps and its BLTeen production each year.

For a mere $10 ticket, available at the door, you can still see this spring’s production, which continues today with a 2 p.m. matinee, followed by evening shows next Friday and Saturday at 7:30 nightly. The theater opens 30 minutes before each performance. The play is in two acts and lasts approximately two hours with a 10-minute intermission.

So, what are you waiting for? Get out and support the arts and enjoy the show.
