Lady Bulldogs win Region crown

TYLERTOWN – Jamecia Starks and Shelby Smith each collected two hits, and for the Franklin County Softball girls’ that helped them bring home a district title Friday night with a 4-2 win over Tylertown.

FCHS, coached by Dana and Mickey Smith avenged an earlier season loss to Tylertown by taking the district crown.

Harley McKay, tossed the win for the Lady Bulldogs. McKay struck out seven and walked two in going the distance.

Franklin County scored two runs in the third, one in the fourth, and another in the sixth to build a 4-0 lead. Tylertown added two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, and attempted a rally in the seventh before McKay and some crafty FC defense ended the Lady Chiefs hopes.

Hayle McKinney added a RBI-double for the Lady Bulldogs en route to the win. Macy Ziskin had a RBI-single.

FC beat Wesson 7-3 Thursday night to set up Friday’s winner take-all district championship. McKay pitched back-to-back wins for the Lady Bulldogs.
