Today is Easter – the holiest day in the Christian’s calendar. In churches throughout our area, the message will ring out in word and song: He Is Risen! He Is Risen, Indeed!

Although Christmas, with the rampant commercialism that surrounds it, gets much more attention, today is the day that makes Christianity possible. We celebrate a risen savior, and the life everlasting bought by his sacrifice on the cross.

Even the colored Easter eggs hidden by adults (and the Easter Bunny) and so happily discovered by children are just another symbol of the rebirth that Christ brings to his followers.

Many local Christians will arrive at church today in newly bought garments. Their brand new Sunday best also underscores the significance of this special day.

Regardless of denominations or the differences we may have between us, we are united in our profession of faith for Jesus Christ, whose triumph over death we celebrate today.
