Cobras clobber Jefferson Co.

WESSON -The Wesson Cobras hosted the Jefferson County Tigers Monday night for a make-up doubleheader contest in Region 7-3A baseball action.

The Cobras defeated the Tigers in both games with final scores of 15-3 and 11-1, putting the Cobras in first place as regional champs.

Coach Seth Lofton reflected on the games: “It was great for us to sweep the district with these wins tonight. We hit fairly well, and the pitchers did a great job on the mound.”

Wesson travels to Magee today to play the Magee High School Trojans. Game time is 5 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for the varsity.

Wesson 15, Jefferson County 3 

The Wesson Cobras dominated the Jefferson County Tigers Monday night in district play. The Cobras racked the runs on the scoreboard to finish the night with a 15-3 win in four innings.

Cobras’ pitcher, Preston Adams, averaged three strikeouts and one walk and fielded one out.

Conner Lowery was the consistent hitter with three singles (RBI-1). Tyler McLeod had a triple and a double, which averaged two RBIs. Other hitters for Wesson were Austin Crow – two singles (RBI-3), Mack Smith – a double, and Jace Alexander – a single (RBI-1). Alexander was a top fielder with three outs.

Tiger’s pitcher, Deldrick White, averaged two strikeouts and seven walks. White also hit two singles. Jefferson County’s top hitters were Matthew Brown- two doubles (RBI-1) and Jalen Herrington had a two-run home run.

Wesson 11, Jefferson County 1 

The Cobras overpowers the Tigers in game 2 of the night to claim a 11-1 victory.

Cobras’ pitcher, Jeremy Smith, had nine strikeouts and three walks and fielded one out. Closeout pitcher, Preston Middleton finished the game in the fifth inning with an impressive three up three down.

Mac McQuage was the top hitter with a triple and two doubles (RBI-1). Conner Lowery (RBI-1) and Jace Alexander (RBI-1) both had two singles each. Tyler McLeod (RBI-1), Mack Smith and Justin Boone (RBI-1) each had a double. Other hitters for Wesson were Austin Crow – one single (RBI-1) and Jeremy Smith- one single (RBI-1).

Tiger’s pitcher, Christian Day, averaged one strikeout and one walk. Josh Day took over the pitcher’s mound during the third inning and had three walks.

Josh Day was the only hitter of the game with a single and made an impressive double play in the bottom of fourth inning that kept the Cobras from scoring any runs.
