District 7 baseball team announced

The District 7 State Games of Mississippi Team was announced Wednesday after a 4-hour tryout that consisted of throwing, fielding, hitting, pitching, and running drills at Co-Lin Community College’s Sullivan Field.

Coached by Bogue Chitto’s Russ Carter and Hazlehurst’s Trey Lindsay, the team is made up of 18-rising junior and senior baseball players from Southwest Mississippi.

Members of the team are as follows: Catchers:  Cord Blocker of West Marion and Graham Cowart of Franklin County.  Pitchers:  Zach Dickerson of Brookhaven Academy, Carr Young of Parklane Academy, Jeb Malley of Oak Forest, Steven Ginn of Bogue Chitto.

Infielders:  Brennan Kelsey of Oak Forest, Dallas Smith of North Pike, Brantley Hughes of North Pike, Ben Maddox of Simpson Academy, John Miles McNeese of Columbia Academy, Aaron McKay of Amite School Center.

Outfielders:  Donte’ Peters of Columbia, Alonzo Brown of Magee, Jonathan Turner of Parklane Academy, and T-Tez Cole of Lawrence County.

Peters ran the fastest time in the 60-yard dash with a 6.79 in the workout. Young had the highest pitching velocity at 84mph.

The team will begin play June 26 at Meridian Community College in a double-elimination tournament between Mississippi’s eight playing districts.
