Lady Bucs clip Lady Cougars

FRANKLINTON, La. – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars suffered a heartbreaking 4-3 loss Tuesday night to the Bowling Green Lady Buccaneers in MAIS fastpitch softball action.

“The girls gave a great effort and hung in there for eight innings,” said BA first-year coach Becky Flowers. “We had a few lapses, but to be only our third game, I couldn’t more proud of these young ladies.”

The Lady Cougars (1-2) will be in action today as they prepare to host the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints for a varsity game only starting at 5 p.m. at Brookhaven Academy softball complex.

Bowling Green 4, Brookhaven Acad. 3 

The Lady Cougars and the Lady Bucs provided an exciting defensive battle for the softball fans as both teams fought to a 3-all tie after seven innings of action.

The Lady Bucs managed to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the victory,

Cailee Fruge was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bucs with six strikeouts and two walks.

Alex Rae Smith suffered the setback for the Lady Cougars with two strikeouts and two walks.

Cameron Watson was the top hitter on offense for Brookhaven Academy with a double. Hitting safely were Alex Rae Smith, K.K. Jordan, Morgan Walker and Amanda Rushing.

Holly Waskom powered the Lady Bucs with a pair of singles. McKinley Seals, Madison LaSalle, Katelin Junkins, Allie Jenkins and Mason Edwards hit safely.

<cTypeface:Bold> In junior varsity action, <cTypeface:Plain> Bowling Green hand Brookhaven Academy its first loss of the season with a 5-1 victory.

Anna Grace Covington absorbed the setback on the mound for the Lady Cougars with one strikeout and five walks. Abeni Fuller (2K, 1BB) pitched two innings in relief and Madi Smith (1K, 2BB) tossed one inning in relief.

Covington recorded the only hit for the Lady Cougars with a single.
