Lady Cougars rally to beat Trinity

NATCHEZ – The Brookhaven Lady Cougars managed to extend their winning to five games after knocking off the Trinity Episcopal Lady Saints 11-8 Monday night in MAIS softball action.

“We lost focus in the middle of the game but regained our discipline at the plate in the sixth to battle back with time expired to get the win,” said BA first-year coach Becky Flowers. “We have two tough games at home this week with Hillcrest on Thursday and Parklane on Friday.”

The Lady Cougars (6-2) will have a couple of days off before resuming action Thursday as they prepare to host the Hillcrest Lady Cougars. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

BA 11, Trinity 8 

Trailing 8-4 going into the top of the sixth inning, Brookhaven Academy conducted another late inning rally to capture the win.

The Lady Cougars exploded with a seven-run blast to secure an 11-8 lead and held off Trinity in the bottom of the sixth inning as time expired to secure the victory.

Alex Rae Smith was the winning pitcher for BA with one strikeout and two walks in relief. Olivia Lofton (3K, 1BB) started for the Lady Cougars.

Lofton was the offensive leader at the plate for BA with a triple and a single. K.K. Jordan contributed a double and a single. Hitting safely were Anna Smith, Anna Grave Covington, Olivia Thornton, Alex Rae Smith and Morgan Walker.

In junior varsity action, Brookhaven Academy defeated Trinity 8-4.

Anna Grace Covington pitched the win for the Lady Cougars with two strikeouts and no walks. Madi Smith (1K, 3BB) also saw some action on the mound in relief.

Cameron Watson and Madi Smith were the top hitters on offense for BA with a pair of single apiece. Amanda Rushing provided a double.
