Parklane cruises past Brookhaven Academy

The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars suffered their second straight loss falling to the Parklane Academy Lady Pioneers 18-3 Friday night in MAIS softball action at the Brookhaven Academy softball complex.

“We ran into a wrecking back early and just could not recover from it,” said BA first-year coach Becky Flowers. “Parklane has a very good ball club. Now, we must regroup and start preparing for our first district test Monday.”

The BA Lady Cougars (6-4) will begin district action Monday as they prepare to host the Central Hinds Lady Cougars. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

Parklane 18, Brookhaven Acad. 3 

The Lady Pioneers of McComb came out and quickly overpowered Brookhaven Academy in the first inning as they grabbed a 10-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first inning, BA made a great effort to answer Parklane’s challenge and managed to push three runs across to cut down the Lady Pioneer’s large lead to 10-3

In the second and third inning, Parklane continued their offensive hitting clinic against the Lady Cougars to increase lead by scoring eight more runs to secure 18-3 victory over Brookhaven Academy in three innings of acion.

Mikaela Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Pioneers with one strikeout and two walks. Hannah Creel (1K, 0BB) also saw some action in relief.

Olivia Lofton suffered the setback on the mound for BA with no strikeouts and no walks. Alex Rae Smith (0K, 5BB) pitched one inning in relief.

Taylor Murray provided the offensive spark to lead Parklane at the plate with a three-run home run in the first inning and hit a single. Kymberli McDowell fueled the flames with a double and two singles. Mikaela Smith contributed a double and a single. Morgan Webb and Callie Snow ripped a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Destiny Brown, Madison Webb and Hannah Creel.

Anna Grace Covington was the top hitter for the Lady Cougars with a double. Anna K. Smith and Cameron Watson provided a single each.

In junior varsity action, Parklane crushed Brookhaven Academy 9-0.

Covington absorbed the setback in the pitcher circle for the Lady Cougars with six strikeouts and three walks. Abeni Fuller (1K, 0BB) also saw action in relief.

Olivia Lewis recorded the only hit on offense for Brookhaven Academy with a single.
