Editor’s Note: This week’s “You Asked” question was about the cones and tape placed in front of the downtown Brookhaven Post Office on West Cherokee Street.

Bright orange cones and caution tape outside of the downtown Brookhaven Post Office mark a hazardous crack in the sidewalk.

Shirley Estes, Ward Four Brookhaven alderman, said she met with the postmaster and local officials a few weeks ago to determine on whose property the crack lies. She said that it is on the post office’s right of way and they are taking responsibility.

Estes added that the city repairs sidewalks regularly when they see an issue or when one is brought to their attention.

The post office put out the cones to prevent accidents, but local postal officials were not at liberty to comment on the situation and directed further inquiries to the main postal service offices.
