Plans have been finalized for the ongoing project to install bricks around the current Lincoln County Veterans Memorial. The brick project is being sponsored by the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Post 2618.

The final plans allow for approximately 1,800 bricks to be laid down near the memorial in phase one. Phase two will be closer to the courthouse and, according to rough estimates, hold about 1,000 additional bricks.

Hervey Littlefield, one of the project’s organizers, said there seems to be a lot of interest, but not many people have actually purchased a brick. The VFW’s goal is to have the project completed by Veteran’s Day in November, but at the rate bricks are currently being sold, that may not be possible.

However, Littlefield did say they have about three to four inquiries everyday, so brick orders may start piling in.

The bricks cost $75 a piece and can only be bought in honor or memory of a Lincoln County veteran. The site is located the Lincoln County-Brookhaven Government complex.

Littlefield said they will have a booth at both the Wildlife Expo Sept. 12-13 and the Ole Brook Festival Oct. 4 for those interested in purchasing a brick.
