Recess 101, located in downtown Brookhaven across from the Lincoln County Government Complex Building, has been providing a venue for local and traveling musicians since their reopening this June.

The business opened during the Brookstock and Brookstock Teen productions this summer and have been showing off their new renovations.

Teresa Moyer, owner and operator along with her husband Eric Moyer, said she is glad to have the business open again and to have former customers coming back.

The building has received new paint and has a new wall and has also moved the location of the bar. Recess 101 also has added stage curtains that formerly were used in Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Fine Arts Auditorium prior to its renovation over the summer.

From Lynard Skynard memorabilia to the classic rock vinyls displayed, the business has a cool, hippie/rock-and-roll vibe.

Recently, Recess has showcased several groups such as the Greer Brothers, Sam Mooney, Greg Smith and Andy Tanas, a former member of the bands Black Oak Arkansas and Krokus.

Harmony Road, a musical trio consisting of the two remaining members of the band the Greer Brothers, also enjoy Recess 101 as a venue for their cover band.

Anthony Greer, bass player for Harmony Road, said, “There are just no problems when you play at Recess.”

Greer stayed he has enjoyed playing at the venue with his son Brandon Greer, singer and guitar player for Harmony Road, and his friend and band mate Ricky Brown.

In addition to live music and a friendly environment, Recess 101 also serves house specialties such as red beans and rice and grilled chicken salad sandwiches. They also serve Coke products and domestic beer.

Recess 101 is open Wednesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. until 11 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. until 12 a.m.
