Wesson defeats Puckett

WESSON- The Wesson Lady Cobras hosted the Puckett High School Lady Wolves Tuesday night and racked up a 10-2 victory in slowpitch softball action.

“We finally finished a full game,” said Wesson head coach Michelle Nunnery. “I’m hopeful this win will give us the momentum to compete when we start district play next week.”

Wesson will travel to Richland Thursday night to face the Lady Rangers. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m. and followed by varsity action at 6 p.m.

Wesson 10, Puckett 2 

The Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Wolves in a 10-2 win. Kaitlyn Smith’s three-run home run in the fourth inning to sealed the win for Wesson.

Lady Cobras’ pitcher, Maddie Jones, had one strikeout and three walks.

The Lady Cobras hit well at bat with top hitter Amber Brinson getting one double, three singles with one RBI. Kaitlyn Smith hit a single along with her homerun to get a total four RBIs. Other hitters were Kayla Britt (double, single, RBI-1), Harmoni Ashley (2 singles) and Brooke Jones (3 RBI double). Abby Meredith, Aurianna Vaughn and Madison Jones all got a single each.

Top fielders of the night were Kayla Britt with seven assists and three outs at shortstop and Harmoni Ashley with eight outs at first base.

Puckett pitcher, Carlee Evans, had two walks, which caused the Lady Wolves to work hard in the field. First baseman Molly Welch and second baseman Joanna Holmes both had four outs each.

Top hitter for Puckett was Mary Jo Benton with a solo home run and a single. Abigail Carter and Kinley Westerfield both had a double and a single each.

In JV action, The Lady Cobras beat the Lady Wolves with a 9-7 win Tuesday afternoon.

The top hitter for the Lady Cobras was Riley Smith with a two-RBI double. A’rie Douglas, Catherine Wilson and Makenzie Dooley each hit a single. Wesson’s A’rie Douglas was top defender with five outs and one assist at second base.
