Funeral Services for Lolita Higdon of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel, 894 Natchez Drive with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday, Sept. 12, 2014, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Brookhaven Funeral Home, 894 Natchez Drive.

Mrs. Higdon, 87, died Sept. 10, 2014, at Countrybrook Nursing Home. She was born on May 5, 1927, in Copiah County to Willie Newman and Minnie Mae Thedford Newman.

She was a retired LPN having worked at King’s Daughters Medical Center and Silver Cross Nursing Home for over 30 years. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. After her retirement she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Frank Newman and Virgil Newman; and one sister, Joy Newman Sebro.

Survivors are her husband of 66 years, George F. Higdon of Brookhaven; two sons, George L. Higdon of Brookhaven and Burrell Higdon and his wife, Kim, of Humble, Texas; her grandchildren, James Higdon, Michelle Higdon, both of Greenville, South Carolina, and Daniel Higdon of Humble, Texas; her brother, James Newman of Missouri; her sister, Willene Hinkin of Kansas City, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
