Louis Alton ‘Jiggs’ Ashley

Funeral Services for Louis Alton “Jiggs” Ashley of Hazlehurst are 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Bethel Baptist Church in Hazlehurst with burial in the church cemetery. Riverwood Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church and again on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Mr. Ashley, 84, died Sept. 15, 2014, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was born on Jan. 1, 1930, to George Frank Ashley and Julia Ella Beasley Ashley.

Mr. Ashley attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst where he also served as a deacon. He was a veteran of the Korean War where he served with the United States Army and received three Bronze Stars. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Mr. Ashley also was a member of the VFW.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Louis Alton “Butch” Ashley Jr.; mother of his children, “Ms.” Irene Laiche Ashley; brothers, Emmett Edwin Ashley, J. M. Ashley and Donald Frank Ashley.

Survivors are his daughters, Wanda Greer and husband, Wayne and Lynn Lewis and husband, Eugene; one brother, Greer Ashley and wife, Juanita; seven grandchildren, Aimee Cheek Moore, Ashley Cheek Livingston, Jonathan E. Lewis and wife, Melissa, Tracy Watson and husband, Rodney, Donnie Greer and wife, Nicole, Nathan Greer and wife, Meghan, and Crystal Ashley; and 16 great-grandchildren.
