Bobcats suffer another loss

HATTIESBURG – The Bogue Chitto Bobcats visited the hub city and returned home to Lincoln County with another disappointing loss on the Friday night Region 4-1A match up against the Crusaders of Sacred Heart.

The Crusaders of Sacred Heart had a few more positive offensive plays than the Bobcats as defeated Bogue Chitto 14-0. Both teams came into the game with equal records, but the Crusaders wanted the victory more than the Bobcats. With a few mental errors from the Bobcats, Sacred Heart was able to capitalize and win the ballgame.

Prior to the opening of the contest, the Bobcats won the coin toss and elected to kick the ball off to the Crusaders. The very first play on the scrimmage, BC’s D.J. Nunnery made a great play on defense and was able to come down with an interception for the Bobcats.

After the turnover, the Bobcats struggled to get the ball rolling on offense to kick-start any positive drives. Cameron Price ended up punting the football away at the 10:33 mark. Sacred Heart started another offensive drive that ended with a Sacred Heart punt.

If one thing could have gone wrong for the Bobcats, everything went wrong. D.J. Nunnery muffed the punt for the Bobcats and the kicking team recovered the football. The muffed punt put Sacred Heart in great field position. Campbell Klein put the Crusaders on the board first with a seven-yard touchdown run at the 5:47 mark. Tyler Flathau’s kick was good.

At the 4:00 mark, Price had to punt the ball once again for the Bobcats. To end the first quarter, The Sacred Heart Crusaders had to punt the football.

The Bobcats started the second quarter with another punt and pretty much punted all night long. After Bogue Chitto’s punt, Sacred Heart offense put together a decent drive to set them up for a Tyler Flathau’s field goal, but was unsuccessful.

At the 4:36 mark, BC’s freshman quarterback, Tucker Lambert, threw an interception to Tyler Flathau of the Crusaders, but the Bobcats defense stood strong and was able to force the Crusaders to punt.

To begin the second half, the Bobcats offense came out ready to play and move the ball down the field before coming to a complete halt in the redzone. Coach Sartin had to call on his place kicker Cameron Price to kick a 30-yard field goal. The hold was not handled right and the kick was no good.

At the 5:57 mark of the third quarter, the Bobcats defense was able to make the Crusaders put the ball on the ground, but was not able to recover it. Bogue Chitto ended the third quarter with a punt.

In the fourth quarter, BC still trailed Sacred Heart 7-0. The Bobcats knew that the game was still in their hands if they wanted to win. Bogue Chitto had plenty of opportunities to get on the scoreboard, but was not successful.

At the 4:18 mark, the Crusaders managed put the final nail in the Bobcats coffin when Campbell Klein extended the Crusaders’ lead with a seven-yard touchdown run and Flathau’s kick was successful.

Defensively, Devin McEwen led the Bobcats with 20 tackles. Bo Smithers contributed with nine tackles. Devaris Bullock, Will Fauver, and Brandon Blackwell had five tackles each.

The Bobcats are back on the road next Friday night when they travel to Walthall County to go head to head with their Region 4-1A foes, the Dexter Bulldogs.
