Co-Lin plans Homecoming events

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College is planning homecoming events for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10 and 11.

Alumni, friends and students are welcomed to the campus to re-connect and enjoy activities. The homecoming golf tournament, sponsored by the Wolfpack baseball team, has been scheduled for Sat., Oct. 4. For more information, contact Coach Clay Smith at 601-643-8412.

Taylor scholarship recipients will be honored with a reception beginning at 5 p.m. at the president’s home to celebrate the scholarship’s 10th anniversary. Saturday Activities 

The second annual Homecoming 5K Walk/Run and One Mile Fun Run will be held at 7:30 a.m. on the track at Stone Stadium. For more information, contact Leigh Easterling at -601-643-8435.

General registration for Saturday’s homecoming will be in the J. M. Ewing Administration Building from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Guests can also register at the cafeteria from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Sports Hall of Fame inductions and a business meeting of the Athletic Alumni Association are planned for 9 to 10:30 a.m. in Rea Auditorium. Inductees into the Sports Hall of Fame include Stephen Hobbs, Gerald “Tooley Martello, Heather Ratcliff and Bruce Steele.

The Band and Colette Alumni Chapter will hold its Hall of Fame induction ceremony and recognize its Outstanding Young Alumni recipient at 9:30 a.m. in the Fred and Jewett Taylor Chapel. Charles McCall will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and Chanse McMinn will be recognized as the Outstanding Young Alum. The chapter will also hold its annual business meeting during that time.

A fastpitch softball alumni game will be held on the Lady Wolves softball field at 11 a.m. For more information, contact Allen Kent at 601-643-8314.

The Alumni Association will hold its awards luncheon in the Cafeteria in the Henley Building at 11 a.m. Tickets are $12 and may be purchased at the registration tables or the door. The class of 1964 will be presented with golden anniversary commemorative pins. Other reunion classes, outstanding alumni, Sports Hall of Fame inductees, Band and Colette honorees and outstanding instructors and staff will be recognized. A business meeting is planned at the end of the luncheon.

Tailgate Party 

A tailgate party will be held from 12 to 2 p.m. in the center of campus. There will be food, music and activities for children. The Sojourners will perform at 12:30 p.m. A pep rally featuring the Blue Wave Show Band, the Colettes, Color Guard and cheerleaders will be held at 1 p.m. The band and Colette alumni chapter will hold a book signing for their new history book under the tents during the tailgate party. All former band and Colette directors are invited to attend. Any class or group interested in setting up a tent should contact the alumni office at 601-643-8498.

Reunions

Several reunions are planned from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The high school class of ’56/college class of ’58 will meet in the Henley cafeteria private dining room immediately following the luncheon. The high school class of ’54 will meet the Mutton building café, and the college class of ’54 will meet in Oswalt Library at 1 p.m. The class of ’63 will meet in Smith Hall. The cheerleader alumni chapter, the first black football players alumni chapter, and the class of 1974 will all meet under the tents at the tailgate party. All classes that end in “4” are encouraged to meet under the tents. If you would like to reserve another location for your class or group, contact the alumni office.

Ballgame Activities 

Pre-game activities begin in Stone Stadium at 2:30 p.m. followed by the 3 p.m. homecoming game between Co-Lin and Hinds Community College.
