The quaint marquee is lit, and the talent is warming up. The Brookhaven Little Theatre is kicking off the new season with their annual membership party Saturday. The event is a chance for the community to become members of the theater crew by purchasing their season tickets and supporting one of Brookhaven’s most unique cultural landmarks.

“BLT is a wonderful organization, and we try to further enhance the art community that Brookhaven already has,” said BLT Board of Directors President Matt Coleman.

The public is invited to join the group for an evening of food and entertainment featuring the selected works from “Les Miserables.” Tickets are $45, which includes a season ticket. This year there will be six different productions including Halloween at the Haven, Dad’s Christmas Miracle, Red Velvet Cake War and Annie.

Coleman said the Board of Directors is looking to make improvements to the Haven, including renovating the neighboring Marquee room. He said the board of directors is working with Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild and an architect to come up with a plan for turning the currently vacant room into a functional area.

During the membership party, guests will be invited to view the empty space, and the Board will be presenting their ideas.

“We think it would contribute to downtown,” said Coleman.

The Board will also presents the John Landress Award Saturday, which is given to members of BLT who have made outstanding contributions toward the organization. The recipient has been active for at least 10 years in BLT, participated in a variety of production-related tasks and serves on the Board of Directors or other theater committee.

The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event begins at 7 p.m. The party is cocktail attire.

For attendees who are feeling particularly high-spirited they may give additional donations to BLT and be recognized on every playbill. Angels donate $125 and receive two season tickets, Patrons donate $200 and receive three season tickets and Benefactors donate $300 and receive four season tickets.
