DAILY LEADER / TRACY FISCHER / Wesson’s senior Kayla Britt led the Lady Cobras offense against Philadelphia Tuesday night.

WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras hosted the Philadelphia Lady Tornados in the opening round of the Class 3A state slowpitch softball playoffs Tuesday night.

The Lady Tornados came out strong and put the Lady Cobras out of competition with two blow out wins to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

The Lady Cobras conclude their season with a 12-16 worksheet overall. Wesson posted a 6-0 record in Region 7-3A action to captured their second straight district crown.

Philadelphia 16, Wesson 3 

The Lady Cobras were defeated by a heavy hitting Lady Tornados ball club in Game One. The Lady Cobras were able to hit the ball but had difficulty getting on base due to the tough Philadelphia defense.

Kaitlyn Smith (RBI-1) was the top hitter of the night with 2 singles and a home run. Amber Brinson (RBI-2) hit a double to add two points on the scoreboard. Other hitters were Cheyenne Gladden, Harmoni Ashley, and Brooke Jones who all hit a single each.

The Cobras top defensive players were Riley Smith with 5 assists and 1 out from the pitcher’s mound, which included a double play and Harmoni Ashley with 4 outs at 1st base.

For the Lady Tornados, Jada White (RBI-1) hit a homerun, a double and 2 singles. Other hitters were T’Kambry Jordan with 3 singles and a double, Kambresha Griffin (RBI-4) with 2 homeruns and a single and Alyssa Davis (RBI-3) with a homerun and 2 doubles. Top defensive player for the Lady Tornados was Sydney Battle with 8 outs at 1st base.

Philadelphia 16, Wesson 1 

The Lady Cobras lost the second game of the best-of-three series to the Lady Tornados with a final score of 16-1. Wesson continued to have difficulty against the tough Philadelphia defense.

Wesson hitters were Cheyenne Gladden, Harmoni Ashley, and Aurianna Vaughn who all hit a single each. The Cobras top defensive was Harmoni Ashley with 5 outs at first base.

Alyssa Davis (RBI-5) of the Lady Tornados was the top hitter in Game 2 with 2 homeruns and a double. Kambresha Griffin (RBI-1) hit a homerun and 2 doubles. Other hitters for Philadelphia were Nia Lockett with 2 singles and a double and Autumn Davis (RBI-3) with 2 homeruns. Top defensive players for the Lady Tornados were Alyssa Davis with 6 assists and 1 out at shortstop and Sydney Battle with 5 outs at first base.
