Lady Hornets win first; Bears took second in meet

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets sprinted to a first place finish in Saturday’s cross-country meet at West Lincoln. The Lady Hornets were led by individual Abby Thomas, whom came in first with a time of 22:06 in the 5K distance. Julie Smith came in fourth with a time of 23:26.

The West Lincoln Bears finished in second place in the boys’ 5K run. Leading the Bears was Jason Watts, whom placed first, with a time of 17:46 in the meet.

In other varsity results: Natchez Cathedral finished first place in the boys meet and second in the girls run. The Brookhaven Lady Panthers placed third. The Jefferson County boys team placed third.

In junior varsity action, The West Lincoln Lady Bears finished first in the 4K race, led by Jana Case at 20:58 and Georganna Allen at 21:18. The Loyd Star Hornets also finished No.1, led by Jett Calcote’s 17:16 and Dane Smith at 17:40 in the 4K.

The Natchez High Lady Bulldogs came in second in the girls meet. In the boys meet Jefferson County placed second and West Lincoln took third place.

Varsity girls:  Lexis Leggett, 25:36; Carlie Smith, 28:16.

Junior varsity girls:  Jana Case, 20:58; Georganna Allen, 21:18; Morgan Newman, 22:32; Megan Gerald, 22:53; Skylar Hall, 23:06; Maddox Redd 24:45.

Junior varsity boys:  Jacob Lofton, 22:01; Parker Travis, 22:33; Caleb Weeks 23:45; Josh Smith, 27:26; Dylan Griffin, 29:38.
