She and her husband traveled and raised their family in various parts of the country while he was stationed in the United States Air Force before returning home to Brookhaven in 1966. She was a loving wife and mother whose devotion to her family was evident by all who knew her. That devotion was reciprocated, especially in her later years as her health began to decline. As a charter member of Brookway Church of Christ, she participated in all of the activities as long as her health allowed, especially the Ladies mid-week Bible study.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, David W. Laird; her son, David Brian Laird; and her brothers, Perry Herschel Smith and R.J. Smith and his wife, Tommie.

Survivors are her son, Kevin Laird and wife, Robin; her daughters, Linda Laird and Wanda Laird Griffin and husband, Howard, all of Brookhaven; her grandchildren, Tre’ Griffin and his wife, Amy, of Brookhaven, Jeff Griffin and his wife, Kaci, of Richland, Melanie Griffin Rayborn and husband, Ben, of Jayess, Shawn Tolbert and his wife, Stefanie, of Sanford, North Carolina, and Shay Laird of Atlanta, Georgia; her brother, Joel Sherman Smith and his wife, Elaine, of Brookhaven; her great-grandchildren, Ben, Will, Dillon, Courtney, Ryan, Cadie, Hunter, Garrett, Carter and Hannah; many nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregiver, Alesha Lyons and the staff of Deaconess Home Health and Hospice.

Memorials may be sent to the Berean Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1009, Brookhaven, MS 39602.
