Duty: 1. (noun) a moral or legal obligation; a responsibility. 2. (internet) the easiest word in the English language to make a poop joke from.

“Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare” was released recently, and, like many of my more meaty manly comrades, I partook in the paramount pre-release party at midnight at my local GameStop. I returned home and after the arduous task of installation and update download, I finally was able to suit up and knock heads.

Now it’s been 4 days since the release, and what do I think, you may ask? I think CoD did their homework and decided to take all the best parts of previous first-person shooter titles and Frankenstein them to Kevin Spacey’s face.

Pros: The single player story mode is very good, as far as FPS games go. The animation and graphics are stellar! Kevin Spacey voices one main character, and his animation and look is spot on. It really looks like Kevin Spacey! There were several points in the narrative that I had to double check to make sure it wasn’t video instead of computer animation.

The story line itself is predictable, and a bit cliché, but that’s all your average Mountain Dew swilling jug-head needs in a game made famous for it’s player vs. player modes, which offer new ways to kick a dead horse. CoD takes us to the FUTURE where we have smart guns, scan grenades, orbital lasers and jet packs!

Cons: PRICE! $60 for just the disk and another $50 for the downloadable content to come out over the next year or two. I use this as an excuse to play more often, though. “I’m trying to get my money’s worth” I have found only works so long before the couch gets a pillow and a blanket. The lesson here is to always buy a comfy couch.

In closing, this game should be called Call of Titanfield: Advanced Payment Required. It’s all been done, but chocolate cake is chocolate cake no matter the icing.
