HATTIESBURG – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars suffered a heart breaking 63-60 loss Thursday night to the Presbyterian Christian School Bobcats in MAIS basketball action.

In the girls game, the Lady Bobcats won 42-27 over the Lady Cougars.

BA will resume action tomorrow as they return home to host the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots for two varsity games starting at 1 p.m.

PCS 63, Brookhaven Acad. 60 

The Cougars and the Bobcats came out firing on all cyclinders as both teams light up the scoreboards in the first half.

In the opening quarter of action, the PCS seized control with a 19-9 run, but the Cougars rallied back in the second quarter with a 16-8 run to cut down the Bobcats lead to 27-25 at halftime.

In the second half, both teams turned up the heat on defense to keep the game close. PCS managed to win the scoring battle in the final two frames by edging the Cougars 36-35.

Rooke Welch powered the Bobcats’ offense with 24 points. Will McGillis contributed 21 points.

Senior forward Peyton Hood pumped in a game-high 29 points and grabbed 4 rebounds to lead the Cougars. Caleb Brown chipped in with 21 points, Drake Flowers powered the boards for BA with 7 rebounds and scored 4 points.

PCS 42, Brookhaven Acad. 27 

Anna Grace Covington paced the Lady Cougars offense with a team-high 9 points. Edie Riley contributed seven points and grabbed three rebounds. Anna Kathryn Smith and Covington were the leaders on the boards for BA with five rebounds apiece. Smith also had five assists.
