Hornets, Lady Bears claim wins

Loyd Star’s boys and West Lincoln’s girls won junior high games Saturday afternoon at Loyd Star Gymnasium.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Bears rolled over the Lady Hornets 38-25. Andrea Butler was the leading scorer for the Lady Hornets with 14 points, and Sarah Britt had seven points. Megan Gerald led West Lincoln with 18 points, and Skylar Hall chipped in with 13 points.

In the boys’ contest, the Hornets edged the Bears 33-31. Karlton Byrd led the way for West Lincoln with 12 points, while Jatavian Lewis chipped in nine points. Loyd Star was paced by Dane Gregory Smith’s 17 points, and Zabien Price netted 12 points.

Loyd Star captured a split decision in a pair of seventh grade games against West Lincoln. The Lady Hornets rolled to a 17-13 win, while the Bears cruised to a 31-11 victory.

In the girls’ contest, Tabby Wyatt led the Lady Hornets with eight points. Julianna Crosby paced the Lady Bears with seven points.

In boys’ action, Anthony Hughes pumped in a game-high 16 point to lead the Bears. Reese Dehart and Tanner Watts directed the Hornets with four points each.

Loyd Star’s junior high teams will return to action Monday, Dec. 1 as they visit Enterprise for four games, starting at 4 p.m.
