Lady Wolves feast on Delgado, Dolphins edge Co-Lin

WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves enters into the Thanksgiving holidays undefeated with a 6-0 record after feasting on the Delgado Lady Dolphins 64-38 in a Saturday afternoon JUCO basketball contest at Mullen Gymnasium.

In the mens’ contest, the Wolves (2-4) suffered a heart breaking 67-64 loss to the Dolphins.

Co-Lin will have the rest of the week off to enjoy the holidays. The Wolves and Lady Wolves will resume action on Monday Dec. 1 as they travel to Moorhead to take on the Mississippi Delta Trojans. The women’s game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s contest at 8 p.m.

Lady Wolves 64, Lady Dolphins 38 

The Lady Wolves provided a strong offensive effort in the first half to lead 46-31 at halftime and outscored the Lady Dolphins 18-7 in the second half.

“We did not play like we are capable of,” said Co-Lin women’s coach Gwyn Young. “We played very poorly on defense in both the first and second half. In the second half, neither team shot the ball well, but we managed to make enough plays to secure the win. Overall, we still have a lot to improve on both offensively and defensively to get better before we start our division race.”

Claresa Banks powered the Lady Wolves with 14 points to four players on double figures. Tyra Gibson and Arnissayur Robinson chipped in with 12 points a piece. Caroline Lumpkin added 11 points.

Toni Woods directed the Lady Wolves on the boards with nine rebounds. Banks helped on the boards with six rebounds.

The Lady Dolphins were led in scoring by Moesha Moton and Alexis Jackson with 10 points each. Erielle Stewart was the top rebounder with six rebounds.

Delgado 67, Co-Lin 64 

The Wolves and Dolphins provided an exciting contest in the men’s contest as both teams battle battled back and forth in a close series. Delgado managed to take a slim 39-38 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the tough defensive battle continued as neither team could gain complete control in a lowing scoring affair as the Dolphins nipped the Wolves 28-26 in the final frame to secure the win.

“We had a rough night shooting the ball,” said Co-Lin men’s coach Kenny Bizot. “We struggled down the stretch to make the plays we needed both offensively and defensively to capture the win”

Sophomore Lucas Burris had a stellar double-double performance for the Wolves with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Lumpkin contributed 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Dolphins had three players to score in double figures as Markel Williams paced the team with 19 points. Bobby Bissant netted 16 points and Williams Grant scored 10 points. Jeffrey Dixon led on the board with six rebounds.
