MCCOMB – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars defeated the Parklane Academy Pioneers 57-44 in MAIS basketball action Monday night in Parklane’s Thanksgiving holiday Invitational two-day tournament.

BA resumes action today as they travel back to McComb to take on Oak Forest Academy. The girls are schedule to tip off at 1 p.m., followed by the boys.

The Cougars came out strong and quickly set the tone of the game in the first quarter as they overpowered the Pioneers early to claim an 18-10 lead.

In the second quarter, Parklane rallied back to outscored BA 11-8 but trailed the Cougars 26-21 at halftime.

In the second half of action, Brookhaven Academy put together a 14-11 run in the third quarter and a 17-12 run in the fourth quarter to secure their second win of the season.

Senior forward Peyton Hood provided the Cougars with a stellar performance on the court as he pumped in a game-high 28 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the team. Drake Flowers chipped in with 14 points and seven assists. Trent Nettles helped on the boards by grabbing six rebounds.

Quartez Brown was the scorer for the Pioneers with 18 points. Henry McDonald contributed eight points.
