Enterprise topples MSD

JACKSON – The Enterprise Yellow Jackets swept a pair of non-district basketball games on Tuesday night as the varsity boys and girls picked up wins at the Mississippi School for the Deaf.

In the varsity girls’ game, the Lady Jackets crushed MSD 50-24.

In the boys’ game, Enterprise won in convincing fashion 70-25.

Enterprise returns to action tonight as they travel to Bogue Chitto to tip-off the 2014 Lincoln County Tournament. The Lady Jackets and Jackets will meet the host Bogue Chitto Bobcats on the first night of action. Enterprise and Bogue Chitto girls will tip-off at approximately 7 p.m. with the varsity boys to follow.

Enterprise 50, MSD 24 

The Enterprise Lady Jackets jumped all over the Lady Bulldogs in the first quarter as they claimed a 20-5 lead after a quarter of action. The Lady Jackets (7-1), continued to overpower MSD in the second quarter as they extended their lead to 30-7 at intermission.

The second half provided an opportunity for all of the Lady Jackets to get some playing time as Enterprise outscored MSD 20-17 in the half to win on the road.

A total of twelve different players got into the scoring column Tuesday night for Enterprise. Megan Rippy led her team with 8 points and 6 rebounds for the Lady Jackets.

Kylisha Cathey scored a game-high 9 points for MSD in the loss.

Enterprise 70, MSD 25 

In the varsity boys’ game, Enterprise got of the gates with a hot start as they jumped all over the Bulldogs by carrying a 15 point advantage after the first quarter. In the second quarter, eighth grader Jontavious Smith carried the load for Enterprise as he scored 10 of his 17 points in the quarter as the Jackets commanded a 37-9 lead at halftime.

The dominance continued for Enterprise (4-4) in the second half as they outscored MSD 33-17 on their way to victory. Ten different Jackets added to their total of 70 for the game.

Terry Fleming paced MSD with 9 points in the loss.
