Shooting leaves one dead

Brookhaven Police Chief, Bobby Bell has confirmed a shooting between two men resulting in a death. The incident, as of now, has been classified as a homicide. Bell said the police department received the call at 12:32 p.m.

 

Described by Bell as “another senseless killing,” the shooting took place at Cloverdale Acres. Victim, Demetrius D. Wilson of 122 North Street Drive had returned shopping with his girlfriend and noticed a man, the suspect, Yaquilla Washington of 505 Vanzie Street, looking at them. Wilson rolled down the window and asked if everything was okay to which Yaquilla replied to the affirmative.

Wilson and his girlfriend drove to another house in Cloverdale to drop off some things they had bought. When Wilson’s girlfriend returned to the car, she and other witnesses heard an argument between the two men followed by seeing Washington allegedly shoot and kill Wilson.

 

Bell said that Washington was arrested a short distance from the scene of the crime and officers have recovered the gun. Washington has admitted to the crime and is in jail.
