Brown, Diamond hold top positions

Monday, the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors began the first meeting of the year by getting down to business.

The board started with the appointment of offices along with some progress reports and updates for the first of the year.

Eddie Brown, of district four, was reelected as the president along with Jerry Diamond, of district two, who was reelected as vice-president. The positions of board engineer and board attorney remained intact for Ryan Holmes and Bob Allen as well.

Also reelected to their positions were: board purchasing clerk Debra Rent; receiving clerk Janice Haley; payroll clerk Wendy Smith; accounts payable Phyllis Smith as well as other various positions recommitted.

Tillmon Bishop, Lincoln County Chancery Clerk, praised several of the returning office holders but singled out one individual as exceptional. Bishops, along with several supervisors praised Larry Rice, assistant receiving clerk, as being a top hand.

Afterwards the board approved purchase for the Lincoln County bonds for elected officials, approved rehiring of all present Lincoln County employees at their current salaries, approved to reappoint current commissioners of the Lincoln County Civic Center, reappointed alliance board members and assigned assistant receiving clerks for each district.

Rita Goss, tax assessor/collector, updated the board with an update on the land roll that needed to be clarified because of a homestead deletion.

The board was also presented a pauper’s resolution for the aid of Shirley A. Clark’s family. Clark died Dec. 25, 2014 at the age of 61. The board approved the resolution to grant a standard sum of $450.

Board attorney Bob Allen and Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing presented the board with an update on the vicious dog ordinance voted on earlier last year. Rushing said the only thing needed so far was to purchase necessary equipment to enforce the ordinance.

Ryan Holmes, county engineer, updated the necessary officials on the proposed arena improvement progress and discussed ditch-work near Linton Avenue. The arena construction bid went to Paul Jackson & Sons, of Brookhaven, as the best possible choice for the job at hand.

 

In other business, the board:

 

• Approved applications for the department of the army.

 

• Approved emergency purchase for backhoe transmission.

 

• Approved the 2013-2014 IRS Audit report.
