One of Lincoln County’s own farmers was named Farmer of the Year from the Minority Landowner Magazine in 2014.

Robert Robinson received the honor in the magazine’s Sixth Annual Farmers of the Year issue. Farmers from all hues, ethnicities and nationalities received recognition. The 2014’s Farmers of the Year list included a broad array of farm entities including forestry, blueberries, poultry, livestock and vegetable production from across the United States.

These individuals received recognition for managing their natural resources and producing quality foods to help feed the world based on their farm skills. Most of 2014’s winners shared relationships with service providers such as USDA, extension and community based organizations to help shepherd their nomination letters through to the selection committee.

Robert continues to farm land his father farmed during the Great Dust Bowl. Robinson Farm operation consists of vegetables and beef cattle production. They plant upward of four acres of vegetables in spring and fall. This is challenging work. However it brings great reward in feeding families throughout Central Mississippi.

Robinson raises a variety of vegetables including greens, tomatoes, squash, peas, cucumbers, green beans and others. Their clients place orders in the month of March for different types of vegetables helping them determine what and how much to plant. Robinson primarily sells directly from his farm with a lengthy list of regular customers.

His wife, Anna, manages the finance, marketing and selling of produce to customers. The Robinsons host farm tours and other events to share their knowledge. In 2012, they sponsored their first Saving Rural America Rally to promote their farm practices in conjunction with Winston County Self Help Cooperative.
