Jacob Bozeman is taking his tennis talents to the next level. Brookhaven’s men’s tennis star has signed a tennis scholarship with the Itawamba Community College Indians.

Bozeman signed his official scholarship papers last Thursday afternoon in the Brookhaven High School Library. He is the son of Neal and Lynn Bozeman.

“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play tennis in the collegiate level,” said Bozeman. “Itawamba has a very good men’s tennis program. They have won the state championship in the last four out of five years. I believe their program is very strong, and I am excited to be joining them.”

Bozeman mentioned he wants to pursue a career in nursing. In his senior year at Brookhaven High, he currently has a 3.0 grade-point average.

In Bozeman’s junior year, he posted a 14-2 record in boys’ singles competition. Jacob stated he won the state championship in boys’ doubles his sophomore year and wants to win another as a singles competitor. Last year, Bozeman advanced far in the playoffs before losing in the South State finals.

Bozeman also plays soccer at Brookhaven. For years, he played as a right fielder, but this year he is the Panthers’ goalie.

“Jacob has a very strong work ethic,” Brookhaven Tennis Coach Nancy Fisher said. “He has a great competitive spirit and never quits. Jacob is always working on his game, his fitness and his mental toughness. He will be greatly missed next year, but I’m excited about his future tennis career at Itawamba.”
