Arrows end Panthers win streak, girls fall

CLINTON – The Brookhaven Panthers saw their eight game winning streak come to an end Tuesday night as they fell to the Clinton Arrow 61-56 in overtime in a non-division contest.

In the girls’ game, the young Lady Panthers (2-19, 2-1) suffered a tough 66-27 loss to the Lady Arrows.

Brookhaven returns to action Friday as they travel to Natchez to face the Natchez Bulldogs for a big Region 6-5A contest. The Lady Panthers will tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m.

Clinton 61, Brookhaven 56

The Panthers and the Arrows provided an exciting contest for their basketball fans in boys action as both teams battled to an 25-all tie at halftime.

In the second action, both teams started off slow in the third quarter, but the Panthers (18-3, 3-0) managed to claim a slim 33-32 lead after a 8-7 run.

In the fourth quarter, Clinton fought back with a 13-12 run to tie the contest at 45-all at the end of regulation.

In the overtime, the Arrows continued to gain momentum as they outscored the Panthers 16-11 to collect the win.

Damarius Brooks directed the Panthers offensive attack with 15 points. Alex Benson contributed 10 points. Tavis Moore provided eight points and grabbed five rebounds. Shon Blackwell added seven points. Darrian Wilson and Garrick Smith were the rebound leaders with seven rebounds apiece.
