Floyd Leary

Memorial Services for Floyd Leary of Brookhaven are on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Saint Simons Presbyterian Church. Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, from 5 until 6 p.m. in the Club House at Marsh’s Edge on Saint Simmons Island.

Mr. Leary died at the Retreat Marsh’s Edge following a lengthy illness. He was born on July 12, 1925, in Brookhaven to Robert Dudley Leary Sr. and Bessie Elna Pitts Leary.

He graduated from Brookhaven High School and attended Michigan State University before graduating from Emory University in 1949. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He served in the United States Army Air Force from 1944 to 1945. Mr. Leary retired as an Insurance Executive having worked for Mutual of New York and American Security Insurance Company. In his retirement years he enjoyed fishing and traveling to Keeneland and Saratooga horseracing meets.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, John Lewis Leary, Robert Dudley Leary Jr. and Harold Leary; and his sister, Katherine Leary Roberts of Brookhaven.

Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Mary Jo Farmer Leary (June 6, 1953); and their three children, Linda Cherniavsky and her husband, Fyodor, John Leary and his wife, Karen Meadows and Lisa Leary; and two grandchildren, James Leary and Mary Kate Leary.

The family wished to express gratitude to Diane Flowers, housekeeper, and Bright Star and The Retreat at Marsh’s Edge caregivers for their attentive and loyal service to Mr. Leary’s care.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers gifts may be made to the Emory University Eye Center, Emory University, Office of Gift Records, 1762 Clifton Road, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30322 or Alzheimer’s of Glynn/ Brunswick Inc., 2803 Sherwood Drive, Brunswick, Georgia 31520.
