TYLERTOWN – The Wesson Cobras traveled south to Tylertown to play the Tylertown Chiefs Saturday night for the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs. The Chiefs managed to come out on top with a final score of 68-43 and advance to the next round.

The Cobras started out strong in the opening quarter, but the Chiefs managed jump ahead of Wesson and lead on scoreboard for the entire game to clinch the victory.

The top Cobra offensive and defensive player was sophomore Eric Rhymes who scored 18 points which included four 3-pointers and had 2 steals and 6 rebounds. Senior Dartavious Dixon also put 7 points on the scoreboard and had 3 steals and 3 rebounds. The Cobras were 2/8 from the free throw line.

The Chiefs top player was Aaron Jefferson who had a point total of 20 and had 3 rebounds and 1 steal. Top defender for the Chiefs was Johny Wilson with 10 rebounds and 12 points. The Chiefs had an average of 12/19 in free throw action.

“This was a tough loss,” commented Cobra coach Rusty Newman. “Tylertown got going early in the game and we did not respond well. Foul trouble hurt us throughout the game. I hate to see the season end but I’m proud of my guys for a good season.”
