Two local boys in MAC All-Star action Friday

Junior forward Darrian Wilson of Brookhaven and junior forward Anthony Jones of Wesson will be representing their school’s pride in the boys’ MAC/MS Sports Medicine All-Star Classic in Clinton at the A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.

The boys’ game will start approximately at 7:30 p.m., after the girls All-Star game at 6 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10.00 per person for all ages and seating is general admission and good for both games.

In Darrian Wilson’s junior year for the Panthers, he averaged 7.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Brookhaven finished their 2014-15 season with a 23-5 record and posted a 6-0 record in Region 6-5A action winning their first district championship since 2003.

In Anthony Jones’ junior year for the Cobras, Jones averaged 19.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists per game. Wesson finished the season with a 21-9 record and placed second in Region 7-3A action with a 7-5 record.

Joining Wilson and Jones on the South squad are DeAnthony Bowie of West Harrison; Enrique Milton and Eddie Galloway Jr of Provine, Stacee St. Julian of St. Martin, Jarius Smith of Raymond; Devon Benson of Laurel; Antonio Cowart and KaDerrion Mason of McComb; Darius Hicks of Quitman Evan Howard of D’Iberville.

A three-point shootout, free throw shooting and a slam-dunk contest will start the festivities prior to the All-Star Games.

In 2014, the North girls defeated the South 95-73 to add to the North’s series lead at 28-22. The North boys ended the South’s five-game winning streak with a high scoring 114-110 win to slice the South’s series lead to 38-22.

The North girls will be coached by Katie Bates of Pine Grove and Laura Lee Holman of New Hope. The North boys will be guided by Todd Arnold of Southaven and Tarrus Metcalf, Sr., of Grenada. The South girls’ coaches are Sherri Cooley of South Jones and Marcus Flippin of Amite County while the South boys are led by Otis Gaines of Provine and Darrin Chancellor of Florence.
