Wesson edges North Pike

SUMMIT – The Wesson Cobras slip past the North Pike Jaguars to gain a 6-5 victory in Saturday’s baseball action in Summit.

“Today was a great team win,” said Wesson coach Seth Lofton. Our pitchers did a great job and we had several guys get some clutch hits.”

The Cobras (5-3, 2-0) continue baseball action Monday as they prepare to host the Franklin County Bulldogs for a big Region 7-3A test. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

Wesson 6, North Pike 5 

The Wesson Cobras returned to the baseball diamond after a week off to defeated the North Pike Jaguars 6-5.

In the first inning, Wesson came out and set the tone of the game early by claiming a 1-0 lead.

The Jaguars battled back to capture the lead in the second inning scoring two runs.

In the last two innings of action, Wesson managed to outscored North Pike 5-3 to secured the win.

Wesson picked up the win on the with the combined efforts of Preston Middleton (0K, 1BB), Preston Adams (0K, 1BB), Justin Boone (0K, 0BB), Alex Mooney (0K, 2BB) and Mack Smith (1K, 0BB).

Cade Killingsworth suffered the setback for the Jags with seven strikeouts and no walks.

Tyler McLeod was the top hitter for the Cobras with three singles. Max Daughdrill contributed two singles. Jeremy Smith and Mack Smith hit safely.

Ben Coney lead the North Pike’s offense with two singles. Dallas Smith had a double. Hitting safely were Brantley Hughes, Patrick Roberts, Levi Wishart and Matthew Philips.
