WESSON – The Wesson Cobras captured a big 11-1 win over the Franklin County Bulldogs in Region 7-3A baseball action Monday night.

Wesson (6-3, 3-0) meets the Bulldogs again tonight in Meadville. Game times are 5 p.m. for JV and 7 p.m. for varsity.

The Wesson High School Cobras beat the Franklin County High School Bulldogs Monday night with a final score of 11-1.

Cobras’ pitcher, senior Mack Smith, sealed the lead with a grand slam in the second inning. Smith averaged nine strikeouts, three walks and fielded one out.

“We played good baseball tonight and barreled everything we saw. I saw a good ball and hit it,” commented Smith.

Wesson also got hits from Mac McQuage – one homerun and one double (RBI-2), Tyler McLeod – one homerun and one single (RBI-2), and Max Daughdrill with two doubles.

The Cobras played good defense with Jimmie McQuage fielding six outs on first base and Jeremy Smith assisting with four outs from second base.

“I’m so proud of all the guys”, Wesson Coach Seth Lofton said. “Mack did a great job on the mound, and everybody was in the game whether they were in the dugout or on the field.”

Bulldogs’ pitchers, Jacob McDaniel and Thomas Slagle, averaged no strikeouts and four walks against the heavy hitting Cobras.

Franklin County’s top hitters were Ethan Verdin with 1 double and Dematre Collins who hit a single and brought in the one run for the Bulldogs. Verdin was a top fielder with four assists and one out at shortstop. Will Moffet fielded five outs at first base.

In junior varsity action, The Cobras also had a good showing against the Bulldogs with a final score of 2-1.
