WESSON – The Wesson Cobras hosted the Magee Trojans Tuesday night and gained a big 9-7 win on senior recognition night.

The Cobras recognized seniors Mack Smith, Ryan Traxler, Mac McQuage, Tyler McLeod, and Justin Boone on their special night.

Wesson (12-5, 7-1) begins playoffs action Thursday as they host the opening round of the Class 3A state tournament and play Collins in a doubleheader contest.

Wesson 9, Magee 7 

The Wesson Cobras’ seniors showed out Tuesday night by taking an early lead in the first inning with some heavy hits. Seniors Tyler McLeod and Mack Smith both hit home runs to put the first points on the scoreboard and then senior Justin Boone hit a grand slam to put the Cobras further ahead of the Trojans.

Cobras’ starting pitcher, sophomore Preston Middleton, threw two strikeouts and had five walks. Jeremy Smith (1K, 1BB) took over the mound in the second inning in relief. Justin Boon closed out the game throwing seven strikeouts and had three walks.

The top hitters for the Wesson was senior Tyler McLeod who hit one double and one single in addition to his homerun. Other hitters were Jeremy Smith and Max Daughdrill with one double apiece.

Mack Smith played strong defense on the field with three outs at first base.

For the Trojans, pitcher Bryson Mills threw four strikeouts and five walks.

Mills also hit a homerun at bat. Other top hitters for Magee were Brewunta Johnson with a double and Jonathan Adcox with two singles.

Adcox was also the top fielder for the Trojans with eight outs at first base.

In junior varsity action,  The Cobras were defeated by the Trojans Tuesday night with a final score of 6-5.
