Wolves drop pair to Itawamba

FULTON – Taking to the road for the final time in 2015, the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves made the long trip to Fulton on Sunday to take on the Itawamba Indians. Itawamba, fighting for a playoff spot in the final week of the season, silenced the Co-Lin bats in gaining a sweep.

Itawamba 9, Co-Lin 1 

The first inning was the difference in game one as the Indians plated all nine runs in their first at bat. Itawamba scored on an RBI double by Timothy Rowe, a two run error, a groundout by Russ Johnson, and four singles.

Co-Lin got their lone run of the day in the eighth inning on an RBI single by Adrian Brown. Austin Douglas took the loss for Co-Lin after allowing nine runs on six hits. Freshman Garrett Goodwin pitched seven innings of relief and gave up only three hits.

Co-Lin had seven hits, led by Austin Irby and Wesley Watts with two hits apiece. Matthew Evans and Austin Resser also hit safely for Co-Lin.

Itawamba 7, Co-Lin 1 

Itawamba scored four runs in the second inning and three runs in the third inning to take control of the game. Co-Lin again failed to score until their final turn at bat, plating one run in the top of the seventh inning. Itawamba outhit Co-Lin 8-5.

The Wolves again got a strong performance from their bullpen. Freshman Tanner Jones limited Itawamba to one hit in three innings. The Pearl High School graduate struck out one and walked one. Stephen Barnett took the loss after giving up six earned runs on seven hits in three innings.

Logan Smith led Co-Lin at the plate with a 2-3 effort. The Loyd Star graduate had the only extra base hit for Co-Lin, a double. Justin Oliver, Wesley Watts, and Austin Resser all hit safely for Co-Lin. Watts had the lone RBI, a hit that scored Choc Hubbard.
