Lady Wolves complete tennis season

TUPELO – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves season came to a close at the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges State Tournament held in Tupelo. The Lady Wolves finished seventh in the state with a final record of 2-9.

In tournament action, freshman Madison Warren of Brookhaven had a great showing making it to the quarterfinal round in No. 1 singles. She defeated Hannah Wegner of Gulf Coast 6-2, 6-1 in her opening round. Warren then upset the No. 2 seed Shannon St. Clair of East Central 6-0 in the first set before she had to retire. In the quarter final round, Warren lost to No. 3 seed Paige Gibson of Meridian 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 5 singles, sophomore Carlianne Alderman, the No. 4 overall seed, also made it to the quarterfinal round defeating Brook Payne of East Central 6-2, 6-4. She fell to the No. 1 seed Tymeka Hunter of Jones County in the quarters 6-4, 6-3.

In other singles action, Allie Dear had a tough draw in her first round as she fell to the No. 4 seed Hannah Peoples of East Central 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, freshman Brandi McInnis fell to the No. 3 overall seed Brittany Decamp of Hinds 6-3, 6-3 and at No. 4 Lexi Johnson of Gulf Coast got past Co-Lin’s Caroleah Brister 6-4, 2-6, 6-0. At No. 6 singles, the No. 3 seed Caitlin Taylor of Jones County defeated Co-Lin’s Carly Riley6-3, 6-2.

In doubles action, Co-Lin’s McInnis and Alderman won their opening round match defeating East Central’s Payne and Jenkins 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 before falling to Jones County’s Stutts and Hunter 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3. Northwest Mississippi’s Jarrell and Jarrell defeated Co-Lin’s Warren and Riley 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. East Central’s Peoples and Smith rallied past Co-Lin’s Dear and Brister 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2.
