Jewelry, cash and handguns were taken during a daytime burglary of a residence on Jackson Street Extension Thursday.

The Brookhaven Police Department received a call Thursday at 4:40 p.m. of an open door at the residence. Police Chief Bobby Bell said when police arrived and spoke with the complainant, they were advised that several handguns were missing along with some men’s jewelry and cash.

Bell said there were several unsuccessful attempts made to break-in to the house, and a side door to the home was eventually kicked in. No one was home during the break-in.

“As of now this is under investigation,” Bell said. “Officers have noted we have a little more traffic in that area than normal, so we are going to beef up our patrolling in that area. We don’t have any major clues, but we’re following up on some things that might be able to help.”

There have been no arrests in the case.
