Union Church

Union Church is a special place where friends and neighbors join together on fifth Sundays to worship together, fellowship together and catch up on what is happening. Such a Sunday was such an opportunity for us to be together.

Dr. Joe Martin, Union Church Presbyterian’s pastor, preached at Union Church Baptist Church. His congregation and our folks had a happy time rejoicing over babies, blessings and a bounty of good food. Dr. Martin had as his guests Brother Jalis Potenciano, Marinno and Inez from Curitiba, Brazil, a very large city south of Sao Paulo. While our guests spoke Portuguese, we understood their joy of the Lord and look forward to seeing them when they come this way again.

Also visiting with the Edward McKinney family was Buddy Craddock, a former resident of our area. We are always happy to see Buddy and to see him looking well.

Celebrating June anniversaries with us were: Web and Virgene Allmon who are celebrating their 68th anniversary and Eddie and Julie Cole who are celebrating their 21st anniversary. Congratulations also to Ellen and Robin Posey who have a June anniversary as well.

The only June birthdays I have are from my own family — Becky Lowery and Aaron Welch. I will post the others as soon as I can find out about them.

Prayers for Roger Dale Smith are needed. He is home from the hospital in a very serious condition. Mrs. Blanche Keller is back in the hospital. Prayers for her continue.

Dates to remember include the retirement reception for Doylene Cupit on Thursday, June 11 from 2 until 4 p.m. We wish our nurse a wonderful retirement and a needed rest. We are thankful to have her close by; she is a joy to us. A future date to mark on your calendars and begin praying for is a mission trip being planned for Mexico Children International. If you want to go, please put your name on a list on the bulletin board at Union Church Baptist Church and talk to Cliff Rushing about the plans.

Accepting each other was our Sunday School lesson for last week and as I thought about that lesson from Romans 14, a quote from Francis Schaeffer reminded me: “If we do not show love to one another, the world has a right to question whether Christianity is true.”

Have a happy week and show love to each other.
