Pat’s Bits and Pieces

“The Lord gave the word; great was the company of those that published it.” Psalms 68:11.

The Lord has blessed, and I now have a moment to sit and pen a column.  I was asked to come and speak at Power House COGIC in Jackson by the Elder Anthony Friday Sr., and I took a moment to prepare for the service. Anytime I am asked to be a keynote speaker at any church, I take off in order to go before the Lord. I take it very seriously whenever I am asked to go before the people of God. That’s not an assignment I take lightly.

I’m Godly proud to say that the Lord truly did meet us there, and the service was awesome.  All honor and glory belongs to God and Him alone.  Without Him, we aren’t anything and nor we can do anything without Him.

Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2015.  Be it from daycares, high school or college, you guys made it.

Congratulations to Semaj Ross. He is son of Dramecus and Ebony Butler Ross, the grandson of James Butler and yours truly, and Elder Speady and Brenda Ross. He graduated from Safari Learning Center where he was chosen valedictorian of his class.  He was given the task of addressing his class and family members.  He also rendered a selection by Whitney Houston, “The Children Are Our Future.”  He did an amazing job, and we’re all proud of him.

Miss Tasha Brown, an employee of Wal Mart Supercenter is proud of her daughter, Kierra Brown.  Kierra received a letter from the University of Mississippi informing her that she been nominated by her school principal and counselor to participate in the 16th Annual Lott Leadership Institute for Rising Ninth Graders.  On March 20, Kierra received her letter of congratulations informing her that she had been chosen.

This is a tremendous honor because hundreds of students applied for the program and only a few were chosen in which Kierra was one of the few.

I would like to introduce to you a new club that has been organized in order to help beautify our communities. It’s the Lincoln County Society of Simply Our Best Gardeners Association.  The club consists of those who love gardening and takes great pride in where they live and their community. They’re simply a club of gardeners.

This year, the members have decided to acknowledge the lawns that are beautiful and well kept.  In order for more lawns to be recognized, they have decided to acknowledge the lawns on a weekly basis instead of monthly.  The club members will acknowledge four lawns per week on Sundays. Winners will consist of first, second, third place and honorable mention. All winners will be notified by letter that their lawns have been chosen for the week.

The signs will read, “Simply Our Best Gardeners Association, Yard Of The Week.”

In August, all of the lawns that were chosen will then be judged for the overall 1st, 2nd, 3rd place, and Honorable Mention prizes. All overall winners will receive a plaque, but the overall 1st place winner will receive a trophy, plaque, and their picture will be taken to be placed in the Daily Leader Newspaper.

Anyone who would like to recommend a lawn, feel free to send an email to the address below and a member will anonymously ride by to look at that particular lawn.

Until next time, happy gardening and enjoy and be safe during the hot summer months.
