Lincoln County teams split opener at Keystone Park

The Lincoln County Americans and the Nationals Coach-Pitch All-Star teams captured a split decision in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball AA All-Star 8-year-old Sub-District Six Tournament Friday night at Keystone Park.

The Lincoln County Americans suffered a tough loss to the Natchez All-Stars 17-5 in the opener. In the nightcap, the Lincoln County Nationals thumped the Franklin County All-Stars 22-1.

Tournament action continued Saturday as the Lincoln Americans battled Franklin County at 6 p.m. in the loser’s bracket. The Lincoln Nationals would take on the Natchez All-Stars at 7:30 p.m. in the winner’s bracket.

The tournament at Keystone Park will continue on Monday with one game starting at 7 p.m. The championship game will be played on Tuesday

The Lincoln County Americans and the Natchez All-Stars came out nervous in the first inning but Natchez manage to settle down to overpower the Lincoln County Americans with numerous hits to take an early lead at 7-0.

The Americans would battle back and cut down Natchez’s big lead by the third inning at 10-5, but the All-Stars from Natchez would manage to put together another big run in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to secure the win at 17-5.

Lincoln Co. Nationals 22, Franklin County 1

The Lincoln Nationals came out and quickly dominated the Franklin County All-Stars in the first inning and roared to an early 13-1 lead in two innings of action.

The Nationals continued to overpower the Franklin County All-Stars at the plate as they increased their lead to 22-1 before the game was called in the fourth inning.
