The Brookhaven Police Department is investigating a sexual assault reported on South First Street Thursday.

Police Chief Bobby Bell said BPD received a call at 2:06 a.m. Thursday that an adult female had been sexually assaulted by a known assailant. The woman stated that she went outside to sit on the porch and a person she knows approached her and tried to force himself on her. The woman started yelling and the victim’s brother stepped out, at which point the subject ran.

Bell said the case is still under investigation and thus far no arrests have been made.
