Funeral services for Otis Larue Alexander of Jayess are Monday, July 6, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church with military and masonic burial services in the church Cemetery. Catchings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Tommy Davis, Kyle Davis, Lane Davis, Matthew Davis, Jack Conn and Tab Conn.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Dunaway, Steve Cothern, Joe Lambert  and Pat Ard.

Visitation is Monday, July 6, 2015, from 11 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Mr. Alexander, 83, died on Thursday, July 2, 2015, at the G.V.  “Sonny” Montgomery VA Medical Center. He was born Oct. 19, 1931 in Lawrence County to Troy M. and Rhoda Cothern Alexander.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he served as assistant post master and mail carrier for over 30 years in Jayess.   He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in the Korean War.  He was a member of Jayess Lodge  501 F&AM,  the VFW and the American Legion.

As long as his health allowed, Mr. Alexander loved fishing, especially on the Pearl River, fox, rabbit and coon hunting and, most of all, sitting on the porch with his wife.  He raised Treeing Walker dogs in his past time.  He was a great provider for his family and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Doris Dunaway Alexander of Jayess; his son, Wendell Alexander of Jayess; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tommy Davis of Jayess; his brother-in-law, Dan Dunaway of Jayess; four grandchildren, Kyle, Lane and Matthew Davis and Megan Carraway; and six great-grandchildren, Dixon and Paxton Davis, Ess and Man King, Conner Joe Murphy and Raylon Brook Saucier.
