One killed in Sunday shooting; victim charged in ’08 murder

A Bogue Chitto man was killed Sunday night in a shooting on Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Drive in Brookhaven. 

HumphreyLincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris said Kelcay Anthony Humphrey, 25, was pronounced dead at King’s Daughters Medical Center Sunday night.

Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell said his office received a call at 5:41 p.m. saying a victim had been shot at Cloverdale No. 73. When officers arrived they found he had been shot multiple times in the back. Bell said witnesses say that the victim was approached from the back and the perpetrator opened fire on him. Bell said according to witnesses the victim was shot approximately between eight and 12 times. The weapon appears to be a large caliber gun.

Bell said after interviews with several witnesses they have people of interest, but no arrests have been made.

McMorris said the body is being transported to the Mississippi Crime Lab for an autopsy today.

Humphrey was charged with murder in the 2008 shooting death of William Ard Jr. Ard was shot in the back at Cloverdale No. 57. Police said Ard and Humphrey had no prior relationship.

Humphrey was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 15 years, but was on earned release supervision, according to the Miss. Dept. of Corrections.
