Funeral services for Rev. Roy Harold Smith of Wesson are Thursday, July 23, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service with graveside service to follow in Wesson.

Visitation is Wednesday, July 22, 2015, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Riverwood Family Funeral Service.

Rev. Roy Smith, 80, died Monday, July 20, 2015 at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was born in Nettleton on Nov. 21, 1934.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. He went on to Mississippi College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1962. He then attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and graduated with a master’s degree in 1965.

He was pastor of St. Rest Baptist Church from 1965 to 1968 and Dubac Church. He was also a chaplain at the Baptist Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He served as BSU Director for Copiah-Lincoln Community College from 1968 to 1996 and was a member of the Southern Baptist Convention Board, American Legion and Wesson Baptist Church.

Mr. Smith enjoyed wood-working, spending time with family and friends and enjoyed his animals.

Preceding him in death were his father, Benjamin Franklin Smith; mother, Gertrude Blaylock Smith; brothers and sisters, Benjamin Smith Jr., Edgar Smith (Sue), Ernest Smith, Floyd Smith (Annette), Laverne Conwell (James), Louise Dill (Franz), Curtis Smith and Raymond Smith.

Survivors are his wife, Opal Williams Smith; son, Kevin Franklin Smith; daughter, April Smith Alsbury; five grandchildren, Allen Smith, Jordan Smith, Austin Smith, Tiffany Alsbury and Samantha Alsbury; daughter-in-law, Terri Powell Smith; son-in-law, William Andrew Alsbury; sister-in-law, Illa Ree Smith; Curtis Smith (Susan); Vicki Langford (Dale); Barbara Jane Gadd (Ronnie); Robert Smith (Tracy); and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
