Funeral services for Charles Edward Langley Sr. will be at Wesson Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, at 11 a.m. He will lie in state from 10 until 11 a.m. The graveside service will follow in the Beauregard Cemetery in Wesson.  Dr. Mike Carr and Rev. Nelson Santa Ana will be officiating the services. Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be at Brookhaven Funeral Home (Natchez Drive) on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 5 until 8 p.m.

Mr. Langley Sr., 87, of Wesson, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1928, in Thomasville, Alabama to Edd Langley and Fannie Gray Hudson Langley.

He grew up in the cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta and finished school at Arcola High School in 1946. After school he entered the Air Force and served in the Central and South America Command for two tours. He served in Europe and the Far East for one tour each. His last tour was at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi serving there as Administrator of Air Borne Electronics School. He retired in 1969.

The next day after retirement Mr. Langley joined the faculty at Co-Lin as the Electronics Instructor. After 21 years of teaching he retired in 1990. Most of the time since then he served with the American Legion in many positions at the state level. He served as the State Commander in 1993-1994. In 1994 he was elected as the alternate (NEC) Executive committeeman and became the National Executive committeeman in 2000.

He served with the local Legion Post 79 from 1990 to the present. The most enjoyable time of this position for Mr. Langley was in helping veterans and their families in dealing with the Veterans Administration.

He was a member of Wesson Baptist Church and taught a Sunday school class for many years. He and his wife Sharon lived in Wesson. She stated that a good morning for Charles was to have his coffee at home, study his Bible, go to Wesson and make his usual stops there and find someone he could help.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Dorothy Ruth Schaefer Langley; brother, Robert Langley; and sister, Jackie Langley.

Survivors are his wife, Sharon Langley; sons, David Langley (Lynn), Chuck Langley (Jenny), Eddie Langley (Lisa) and Wade Alexander (Lori); daughter, Amy Shelly (Chris); grandchildren, Amanda Eaton (Chris), Emily Toney (Jordan), Scott Langley, Brandi Langley, Jase Alexander, Ashby Shelley, Christopher Shelley and Alex Shelley; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dena Russell and Lottie Ruth Williams; brother, Arthur Langley; several nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

The family expresses profound gratitude to King’s Daughters Medical Center, the  doctors and especially the third floor nurses and staff.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made to Benevolence Fund, Wesson Baptist Church, P. O. Box 397, Wesson, MS 39191 or to National Emergency Fund, American Legion, In memory of Charles E. Langley, SR., P. O. Box 688, Jackson, MS 39205.
